Celebrate 30 Years of Best Buddies Canada with these Activities

We’re a few days into Best Buddies Month and the celebrations are just getting started. This Best Buddies Month marks 30 years that Best Buddies Canada has been promoting friendship and acceptance across the country. Whether with a friend or with your chapter, there are so many ways to spread Best Buddies’ message of inclusion and celebrate as a community!

Organize a Best Buddies Day at your School

Spreading awareness throughout your school community and promoting your chapter is a great way to mark Best Buddies Canada’s 30th anniversary. You could plan a bake sale fundraiser, create a collaborative piece of art, or host an event such as a school dance. Students at Thornhill Secondary School, pictured above, hosted a Hooping it Up Fundraiser through their Best Buddies chapter. The event was a great way for the school to get involved and have fun! By making posters and getting other classrooms in on the fun, you can spread friendship and inclusion throughout your school, have fun as a community, and raise awareness for your chapter!

Attend a Virtual Best Buddies Event

Best Buddies Canada offers regular Zoom Socials where Best Buddies participants come together and socialize over a common activity. March’s Zoom activities – painting flowerpots and creating friendship bracelets – are perfect ways to celebrate Best Buddies Month. Sign up through our social media – we hope to see you there!

Send a Letter or a Card to a Friend

Best Buddies Month is all about showing appreciation. Write down a letter of appreciation or create a handmade card to let your friend know how much they mean to you. This heartfelt gesture is such a nice thing to do and will be something your friend never forgets!

Do Random Acts of Kindness

In the spirit of friendship and inclusion, challenge yourself to do one random act of kindness each day. Small gestures can make a big difference. Smile at someone in the hallway, invite someone new to eat lunch with you, give a friend a compliment, or help your parents to make dinner and clean up.

Share Your Story

Sharing your experience navigating friendships and inclusion can be a very powerful way to inspire others. You can talk to a friend, a parent, or a teacher about why inclusion is important to you. During Best Buddies Month, we want to highlight the impact that the friendship program has on participants, so tell us your story as well. By sharing a testimonial about your experience at Best Buddies with us, you will help us to spread awareness and introduce the friendship program in more schools and communities across Canada. To show our appreciation, participants who share a testimonial with us will be entered in our month long Giveaway! Share your story for a chance to win amazing prizes and be featured in our blog.
